Drought Fund Success!

I have a very exciting Christmas Success Story to share with you.

You may be aware that we started a fund to raise money for drought affected farmers. The idea was that as a team, readers on the Simply Budgets mailing list would surely be able to make a difference in the lives of some needy people if all those who wanted to contribute in some way were given a way to do so.

Today's Success Story is a story of how we have been able to help our first farm family affected by the drought.

I received information about a family through one of my readers who passed on the following correspondence that she received in regard to a totally unrelated matter from a farmers wife. It goes as follows:-


'Things have not been going so well here. We live on a dairy farm in central west New South Wales and the drought and deregulation of the dairy industry have taken a big toll on us financially and emotionally. I think our lives are about to change dramatically.

It looks like our only option at the moment is to sell off some of our land and try to clear our very large
debt and then sell our cows and try something new. We are trying to remain positive about it but it's not
easy at the moment. Our current commitments are far larger then our income. Its been a bugger of a
time for us!'


The farm lady who sent this letter to her friend had no idea that her words would be passed on to me or that we have begun to raise funds for people in her situation, so she is going to get a big surprise in a day or so when she opens her mail, because today I sent an anonymous letter with the words 'Merry Christmas' written on the back of the envelope with a little smiley face.

Inside is a money order made out to her for $500.

Thank you so much to those people who have donated towards this fund. It was with much emotion that I dropped that letter in the mail-box yesterday afternoon.

We will continue to raise money and identify people in need so we can create more success stories like this one.
